What Does The Bible Say? - Answers to Bible Questions

Here are the answers to last week’s questions on your Bible knowledge.  Enjoy turning to the bible and checking your answers with the Bible.

  1. What is the first book of the bible? Genesis
  2. Who was the first man and woman? Adam and Eve (Gen. 1:27; Gen. 2:7-9; 2:18-25)
  3. How many days did it take to create the world? 6 and on the 7th day He finished His work and rested (Genesis 1 and 2; Ex. 20:1)
  4. What is the name of the river Jesus was baptized in? Jordan (Matt. 3:13-17; Mark 1:9-11; Lk. 3:21-22.
  5. What is the name of the garden where Jesus prayed before his crucifixion?  The Garden of Gethsemane (Matt. 26:36-46; Mk. 14:32-42; Lk. 22:39-46; Jn. 18:1-11
  6. What is the name of the disciple who kissed Jesus and betrayed Him to the Roman guards? Judas Iscariot (John 13:21-30; 18:1-11; Lk. 22:3-7; 22:47-53; Mk. 14:10-21; 14:43-50; Matt. 26:14-16; 26:47-56)
  7. What city was Jesus crucified in? Jerusalem
  8. How many commandments did God give to Moses and Israel? 10 on the Tablets
  9. Name 5 of them- Thou shalt not have any other gods before me- Do not make any graven images-Do not take God’s name in vain- Remember the sabbath day and keep it holy Honor your father and mother-do not murder- do not commit adultery- do not steal- do not bear false witness- do not covet.  These are all 10 of them.  The first 4 deal with relationship with God and the last 6 deal with relationship with man (Ex. 20).
  10. Who built the ark? Noah (Genesis 6:14-22)
  11. How many children did Mary the mother of Jesus have?  She has at least 4 sons did she have any girls? Here other 4 sons were Joseph, James, Jude and Simon (Matt.12:46; 13:55; Mark 6:3) According to these same passages- it says Jesus had at least two sisters. The phrase in these texts’ states “and are not his sisters here with us?” 
  12. What is the name of the town Jesus was born in? Bethlehem (Micah 5:2; Luke 2:4-20)
  13. Were Mary and Joseph wealthy? No, according to Lev. 2 people who were poor could substitute a pair of pigeons for the purification offering.  Joseph and Mary did this indicating their poverty.  
  14. What did Joseph do for a living and what did he train Jesus to do?  Carpenter. Joseph is called this in Matt., 13:55 and Mark 6:3 calls Jesus the carpenter.
  15. Was Mary a virgin when she conceived Jesus? Yes! Isa. 7:14; Luke 1:26-28.
  16. Which of these did not have their name changed in the bible?  Sarah-Abraham-Jacob- David- Peter? David. 
  17. What is the name and age of the oldest person in the bible? Methuselah- 969 years old (Gen. 5:21-27)
  18. As a baby how was Moses saved from Pharoah’s decree to kill male children?  His mother and sister put him in a basket made of buoyant bulrushes and put him adrift in the river.  Pharoah’s daughter found him and raised him (Ex. 2:10).  
  19. How many Apostles were there? 12 original and then Matthias who took the place of Judas (after he killed himself) and Paul who was called by God later. 
  20. What was the monetary amount Judas got for betraying Jesus? 30 pieces of silver (4 month’s wages)
